Our Work
We here at Ashirwad aim for all-round development of Persons With Disabilities and cater to their needs in order to prepare them for participation in mainstream society.
We use various therapeutic and educational methods to rehabilitate and train them.
EARLY INTERVENTION
Early Intervention refers to the term used to describe the services and supports that are available to babies and young children with developmental delays and disabilities and their families. We offer Early Intervention to children from the age of 0-6 years. Our main aim is that the child must move towards mainstream schooling after early intervention. If not, we opt for Open basic Education (OBE) for the children.
The process begins with assessment first. The child is assessed on various parameters like movements, speech, motor skills, etc. and the type and severity of the issue is diagnosed. The personal history of the patient is also sought and understood. After the issue has been diagnosed correctly, the red flag areas of the patient are identified (which differ from patient to patient) and accordingly the needs. Afterwards, the corrective action plan is laid out. We develop the Individual Education Plan (IEP) which is basically an action plan keeping in mind the unique needs of each and every individual.
After all this, the training for the child begins. Practical lessons on personal hygiene, basic rhymes, vocabulary, motor skills, etc. are give to the children. When the child starts making progress, we try to impart new skills in them which might help them in future.
The most important thing for early intervention is that the issue should be diagnosed as early as possible.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy focuses on function, movement, and optimal use of the child's potential and uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being within all environments of the child including home, school, recreation, and community environments.
It all begins with assessment first. All the relevant information from the patient is sought such as demographic data, medical history of the patient as well as the parents, perinatal information, etc. Then there is a visual observation of the patient along with a thorough examination which includes assessment of gross motor and fine motor abilities. Afterwards, there is Manual Muscle Testing to determine muscle strength.
Finally, when all the tests are complete, a treatment plan is laid out which includes all those areas which need improvement. The plan basically comprises of two components: Short-term Goals and Long-term Goals. The goals vary from patient to patient as per the disability and the severity of the issue. We use modern equipment for treatment of our patients and try to make use of playful activities as children are encouraged to do them.
SPEECH THERAPY
Speech is a very integral part of our daily living. Speech enables us to interact and communicate with others. Unfortunately, due to certain illnesses some individuals aren't able to communicate and speak properly. So, we make the use of speech therapy to rehabilitate them.
Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. Speech therapy techniques are used to improve communication. These include enhancing communication ability, language intervention activities and speech development depending on the type and severity of speech or language disorder. In severe cases, we teach the patient non-verbal form of communication to help them communicate.
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION
Vocational education is education that prepares people to take up employment in a skilled craft or trade as a tradesperson or artisan through a combination of theoretical teaching and practical experience.
Vocational education at Ashirwad comprises of five primary areas:
-
Art & Craft
-
Cooking & Baking

-

We have skilled professionals that engage students in hands-on training of vocational education. It basically gives the students a sense of freedom and accomplishment that they are able to do certain tasks without external help like cooking a meal, creating an artwork, etc.

COUNSELLING
Counselling is the provision of professional assistance and guidance in resolving personal or psychological problems. We offer one on one counselling sessions to our patients and their parents. Counselling enhances health and quality of life in Persons With Disabilities.
In certain cases, the patient or the parent may feel dejected at having a disability and may suffer a nervous breakdown. So, it becomes very important to motivate them through counselling sessions. Regular counselling is offered at Ashirwad to make sure that the patient and his parents are in a healthy/positive state of mind and psychologically stable. Another purpose of counselling is to get insights from the parents about the environment at home in order to know if anything is going wrong which might impact the child in a negative way.
TRAINING, SENSITIZATION & AWARENESS RAISING
In order to establish a healthy and positive environment for Persons With Disabilities, it is very important to create awareness in the society and sensitize the issue. We conduct seminars, workshops and sessions on various sensitive issues to reach out to the masses and create awareness.
We also partner with schools and colleges to organize visits for them. We also conduct guest lectures by renowned dignitaries who talk about their field and give insights into various topics that need public attention.
Other than this, we have regular training for the organization staff in order to make sure that their skills and knowledge is up to date and they discover newer concepts as well.
Skill Development Programme - SASHAKT CANTEEN
The Sashakt Canteen was started with the aim to provide a path to children with special needs, so that they delve deeper into the field of cooking and alongside uphold the motto of Ashirwad i.e. Dependence to Independence.
After having vocational training from Ashirwad, the students are encouraged to work in the canteen where they handle all the activities of cooking, purchasing raw material, packaging, billing, serving, etc. on their own. The children prepare different sorts of snacks, tea, breakfast, lunch, etc.
In the course of this programme, the children learn different skills like earning and handling money, coordinating with others to work, developing efficiency and skills, communication skills, etc. The children who offer services at the canteen are also provided stipend by Ashirwad. This is a reward for their service and also an encouragement for them so that in future they work hard and earn on their own.
Some of our bright students who have worked there are Ishneet, Parvesh, Ankur, Simranjot and Mohit. They all have different abilities and have shown great improvement after working in the canteen.

Ganeev
"Ashirwad means blessing and for me and my family, it's really a blessing. I am the mother of Ganeev kaur, one of your students.
One and a half year back, I came to know about Ashirwad from someone. In mid of February 2018, I visited Ashirwad Centre with my daughter. At that time my daughter was unable to walk. Then I decided to send my daughter to Ashirwad.
Within a few months, I was able to notice a lot of change in my daughter. After 8 months, my daughter could walk on her own. Being a mother, that moment was the happiest moment of my life. I am really very thankful to Ashirwad teachers for their love and support."

Ayesha
"Ayesha, my younger daughter, has been a blessing for me. She is really cute, silent yet naughty. I still remember how worried I was when I realized that she was not able to sit on her own. I realized that she was not doing well and decided to put her in Ashirwad.
With the efforts of the teachers and blessings of God, Ayesha is now able to crawl and walk slowly, holding the wall. She has become quite active.
Thank you Ashirwad team and the management for your guidance and support. This means a lot to me and I am thankful that I took the right decision by putting Ayesha in Ashirwad."
